Lobbying
Despite the challenges ahead, politicians are still generally focused on economic growth and in terms of cuts in carbon emission that are possible without damaging economic growth. Given the chaos that may result in a world where global food, power and water shortages become paramount, this short term focus on economic growth presents a real threat to long-term wellbeing. Long-term sustainability must take priority over economic growth.
What is the best way of exerting maximum political pressure and impact? There are a range of approaches, from the more radical to the more conventional methods of writing and attending surgeries. Politicians may sometimes also be genuinely concerned so it can help to provide them with possible solutions as well as criticisms. These might include carbon taxes, food miles labelling, high taxes on flights etc.
