Building materials
Most of the materials used in house building, particularly bricks, cement and pipes, have a high carbon footprint. Timber buildings have a much lower carbon footprint but are rarely built in the UK, partly because traditionally we have such good stocks of stone, clay for bricks and limestone for making cement.
