Churchyards
For those who have to look after them and maintain them, churchyards can be a bit of a nightmare. Tombstones everywhere, irregular lines, sometimes areas of rubbish. But churchyards are protected spaces, often the only oases of green in urban areas. They can become real havens of wildlife, especially if some thought goes into how to develop them – so they remain attractive to visitors as well as wildlife. Overworked and underpaid attendants will generally welcome assistance from wildlife groups and schools.
