Caring for UK neighbours
One of the two commandments Christians are given by Jesus, is to love and care for their neighbours as themselves. This is usually interpreted to meaning people whose lives overlap their own. Church members should be aware of issues around fuel poverty (households which spend more than 10% of their income on keeping their homes warm) and help old or vulnerable people to access the various initiatives available, usually funded by the government, directly or indirectly, which provide free or subsidised help with insulating cavity walls and roofs. Maybe the church could respond to those living in fuel poverty in other, relatively simple and low cost ways – adding draught proofing, placing aluminium panels behind radiators and clearing attics prior to laying down insulation
How can the church help in caring for local people who may suffer from specific impacts of climate change such as flooding, extreme heat, damage to property from strong winds and rising fuel prices?
