Church Services
Churches have many priorities, but it would be good for all churches to set aside at least two times of the year to focus on our response to climate change. Harvest time has many links with our dependence on the natural environment and the European Ecumenical Christian Network has called for an extended period around harvest to be used by the church as a time for focusing on the environment. Lent may be used as a time of repentance at the consequences of our western lifestyles. There is also Environment Sunday in June – the Sunday closest to World Environment Day.
However, climate change links into so many other areas of life that services can be woven around this theme at any time of the year, taking many different emphasis; appreciation of the earth’s variety, the ethics of climate change, practical action, impact on the poor, and advocacy.
