There is no plan B, no planet B and no way of reversing climate change. All we can do is slow it down…

Hindu Focus

Hindu philosophy describes Brahman, as the “ground of being”. It is the source and also the end of being. Everything comes from, is sustained by, and dissolves into Brahman. Through creation Brahman manifests itself as the universe (Prakriti) and within the universe is most clearly manifested in humans (as Atman – Self).

The philosophy of non-violence (Ahimsa) emphasises the preservation of the environment and all its creatures. Not only the living but also the nonliving aspects of nature, the rivers and the mountains, the rocks and the forests, all have divine significance.

Hindus keep this connection with the environment alive through varied daily rituals, which acknowledge nature in all her diversity and her effect on our lives. Hindu cultures have thus been eco-friendly from time immemorial.

This Shanti Mantra illustrates the relationship between Hinduism and the environment.

OM
MAY THERE BE PEACE IN THE UNIVERSE
MAY THERE BE PEACE IN THE SKIES AND ON EARTH
MAY THERE BE PEACE IN THE PLANTS, THE TREES, THE WATERS
MAY THERE BE PEACE IN THE WORLD
MAY PEACE , REAL PEACE PREVAIL IN ALL
