Rapidly rising fuel prices are highlighting the need to look carefully at our use of transport to find ways forward that do not use up large quantities of fossil fuel. Walking and cycling are obvious alternatives for short journeys. This is one area where rising fuel prices will boost innovative research into alternatives.
