Alternative fuels – biofuels
Biofuels are produced using all kinds of agricultural products, a wide range of waste by-products and from oil, plants and crops grown specifically to produce Biofuels. They include biodiesel, ethanol and biogas. In theory their use should be relatively carbon neutral, but if forests are cleared for their production and if fertilisers and intensive farming techniques are used in their production, their manufacture may release as much, if not more carbon dioxide emissions as the fossil fuels they replace.
There are serious concerns over the environmental and ethical issues of clearing forests and land areas to establish plantations for biofuel crops such as oil palm, and the use of food crops to produce biofuels. The use of considerable quantities of maize and other crops such as wheat and rice to produce Biofuels has been one of the reasons why world grain prices have risen sharply in recent years. Compulsory blending of all fuels in the UK should only be combined with the introduction of stringent checking for sustainable biofuel production.

Hi,Thank you for sharing these links to home school parents like me. I am really pleased about the number of links available on your site http://www.amberlinks.org/sustainable-living/alternative-fuels-biofuels.html. Such a big help for a busy single dad like me. I'd usually spend hours online looking for a good resource until I discovered your website. I appreciate the ease of going through every page. Now your site is just a click away from my bookmark. I also found a link that I thought might be a great addition to your list of resources. The website http://www.startlocal.com.au/articles/educational_biomass.html has information on biomass energy and I think it would really help people a lot. I also thought of sending you a few links that are returning 404 errors:Royal Society http://royalsociety.org/displaypagedoc.asp?id=28914Golden Fuels http://www.goldenfuels.com/biodiesel/I hope I was able to help you in some way because you surely did help me by making my job easier. Let me know if you find this helpful.Sincerely,Jacob Crane
