Consumption
We are bombarded on all sides with pressure to encourage us to consume more. Young people in particular are placed under huge social pressures to ‘conform’ in terms of clothes, goods, the ‘right’ brands, foods. Technological advances are so rapid that a new computer can feel dated within a year or two. But breaking the consumption mould is key in terms of lowering our carbon footprint. We need to buy what we really need rather than what we would like. Youngsters need alternative role models and the confidence to ‘be different’.
