Train travel
Rail travel in the UK is somewhat of a lottery. Clean, punctual trains on some routes combine with over crowded commuter routes with frequent delays in other areas. Very cheap tickets are available at off peak times online (though often with considerable penalties if you happen to miss a connection), but for tickets purchased on the day at peak times a small mortgage may be needed. British train companies could learn a lot from their European counterparts (or from Chiltern Railways)! A pity when the UK has a really widespread rail network, that we cannot lead the way in providing low cost and efficient rail travel.
